Ricky Allen Smith “Sangamo”, 45 of Mt. Zion, IL passed away at 9:35 P.M. on Saturday, October 10, 2020 in Oakley Twp.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Lamp Stand Church, 655 South Airport Road in Decatur, IL.  Funeral service will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the church. Pastor John Morthland Jr. will officiate.  Burial will be held at a later date.  Please follow all social distancing guidelines.  The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Ricky was born on February 13, 1975 in Decatur, IL.  He was a son of Robert C. and Jeanine C. (Evans) Smith.  He married Crystal McBride on July 11, 2003 in Decatur, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Crystal of Mt. Zion, IL, three daughters, Katelin Smith of Decatur, IL, Mariah McBride of Mt. Zion, IL and Breanne McBride of Mt. Zion, IL, his parents, Jeanine Snearly and her husband Perry of Long Creek, IL and Robert Smith and his wife Donna of Mt. Pulaski, IL, five grandchildren, Paetyn Rain, Emmitt Allen, Oakley Grace, Noah Robert and Jonathan Ray, five siblings, Rob Smith of Tulsa, OK, Ron Smith and his fiancé Jacquelin of Mt. Pulaski, IL, Stefanie Morganthaler and her husband Nic of Oreana, IL, Heather Piersall and her husband Brad of Moweaqua, IL and Bobbie Paige and her husband Daniel of Lincoln, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

Ricky worked as a Track Maintenance Welder for Union Pacific Railroad for four years and was a union carpenter for the Local 742 in Decatur for over ten years.

He was a huge Dallas Cowboys Fan, he loved his dogs; his girls and grandchildren were the light of his life, and he was an amazing husband.  Ricky had a big heart and would help anyone in need.

Memorials may be made to Ricky’s family.
