Rev. Jesse M. Adams, 90 of Arcola, IL passed away at 11:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Penn Station, 122 East Progress St., Arthur, IL. Rev. Randy Walters will officiate. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Arcola Honor Guard will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rural Oakland, IL. Visitation will be held two hours prior from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Penn Station. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Please observe all social distancing guidelines and the family requests you to wear a mask.
Jesse was born on January 9, 1930 in Fairgrange, IL. He was a son of Jesse Harrison and Delta (Lewis) Adams. He married Sharon Lois Oliver on August 2, 1953 in Ashmore, IL; she passed away on January 20, 1985. He later married Barbra Clapp-Cox on November 23, 1985 in Arcola, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Barb Adams of Arcola, IL, two daughters, Danyll Cox and her husband Chuck of Hindsboro, IL and Shawna Melton and her husband Chad of Arcola, IL, grandchildren, Tim and Tom Cox, Colten and Delaney Melton, Paul Hilgenberg, Keith Cummins, Samantha Cain, Keisha Camden, Denise Smith, Travis Claver, Carol Floyd and Casey Koester, two step-daughters, Debbie Stanberry and her husband Harley of Greenup, IL and Diane Koester and her husband Todd of Effingham, IL, and one sister, Judy Price and her husband Lester of Granbury, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one daughter, Debbie Hillis, one grandson, James Pyles, four brothers, Audy, Robert, Leonard, George and one sister, O’Dell.
Jesse was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1948 to 1952. He was a member of the Arcola VFW Post 7862.
Jesse was a parts man at Hutton Parts Service in Charleston, IL for many years and also at King Brothers in Arcola, IL.
He served the Lord as a Minister of the Gospel for 65 years, having served at the Antioch Church in Oakland, Oak Grove Baptist Church in Oakland, Whetstone Church in Charleston, Arcola First Baptist Church and the Cowboy Church in Arthur which he started in 2010.
Jesse also served as the Assistant Goat Superintendent at the Illinois State Fair for 28 years and he was a 4H judge for electric and mechanical projects for several years.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, target shooting, camping, playing cards and he had preached at many weddings and many more funerals. Jesse never turned anyone away that needed help.
