Fredrick Wayne Helm, 73, of Humboldt, IL passed away at 11:17 A.M. on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at his residence.

Celebration of Fred's Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the Humboldt Town Hall. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Fred was born on February 16, 1946 in Cooks Mills, IL.  He was a son of Henry Marion and Louise (Hilligoss) Helm.  He married Wilma Lea James on August 1, 1964 in Mattoon, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Helm of Humboldt, IL, three children, Jennie Louise Thompson (Darrin) of Humboldt, IL, Karla Joanne Ballinger (Ron) of Mattoon, IL, Henry Dale Helm (Sarah) of Humboldt, IL, three grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Clodfelder (Jason) of Charleston, IL, Brittni Ann McBurney (Ben) of Arcola, IL, David Riley Thompson of Humboldt, IL, two great-grandchildren, Averie Jo and Aubrie Grace Clodfelder, six sisters, Marilyn Eastin of Humboldt, IL, Peggy Poorman of Humboldt, Eva Spence of Humboldt, Ginger Mills (Chris Benge) of Neoga, IL, Lesley Jo Niemeyer (David) Humboldt, IL, Shelley Tingley (Rick) of Ankeny, IA, one sister-in-law, Marie Helm of Humboldt, IL, beloved grand-dog, Kruzer and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Henry Helm Jr., Thomas Helm, and Kenneth “Mike” Helm, two sisters, Teri Helm and Carolyn Donnell, four brothers-in-law, Bill Mills, Dick Poorman, Mike Spence and Dean Eastin.

Fred worked for Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed Co. of St. Joseph, IL, retiring on March 1, 2006 with over 43 years of service.

Fred and Mike farmed for several years and worked several odd jobs to care for his family.  His love of mowing and gardening earned him the nickname of “Yardfarmer”.
