Vera Lee Miller

Our mother, Vera Lee (Jean) Miller, passed from this life to her eternal home in Heaven on July 22, 2026. She was born on April 5, 1933, to Theodore and Mae Ellen (Cook) Jean, in Xenia, IL. They moved to Arthur, IL when she was a young girl. She married Harold R. Gordon of Sullivan, IL on March 1, 1951, and he passed away on April 11, 1960.

On October 3, 1969, she married Charles W. “Bill” Miller at the United Methodist Church in Arthur, with Rev. Kenneth Plummer officiating. She and Bill were long-term residents of Arthur, where they owned and operated Miller Bus Service. They were married for 34 years, until his death. Vera was a member of New Life Church in Sullivan, IL. She loved to sing and did sing some specials at church, as well as singing with the prison ministry.

During her early adult years, she was a switchboard operator for Illinois Consolidated in Bruce, IL. She also worked for the Garment Factory in Sullivan, IL and eventually attended cosmetology school.

In her later years she enjoyed lunch outings with a drive down memory lane to Bruce and the country south of Sullivan, followed by a drive past the old house where she lived in Sullivan, ending with a fried apple pie and ice cream from McDonalds, eating it at Wyman Park. She was an animal lover, especially cats. She had several during her lifetime, as well as strays that she fed.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her first husband, Harold R. Gordon, her second husband, Charles W. Miller, a daughter, Debbie (Miller) Tiffan, a sister, Eva I. Brisco, and a brother, Harold “Ike” Jean.

Surviving are three daughters, Lynne (Gordon) Delmar and her husband Jack of Normal, IL, Sheila (Gordon) Thompson and her husband Johnny of Cape Coral, FL, and Kathryn (Miller) Yancy and her husband Charles of Lovington, IL, two sons, Scott Gordon and his wife Angie of Tuscola, IL, and Jim Miller and his wife Theresa of Ivesdale, IL, 10 grandchildren, Richard Goode of Hamilton, OH, Ginger Clapp and her husband Steve of Normal, IL, Ryan Keith and his wife Jaime of Zionsville, IN, Kallie Carver and her husband Charlie of Howell, MI, Jeremy Gordon and his wife Julie of Herndon, VA, Alyssa Maloney and her husband Johnny of Libertyville, IL, Mikie Stirrett and his wife Megan of Atwood, IL, Jamie Monts and her husband Andy of Arthur, IL, Jimmy Miller and his wife Mandi of Sadorus, IL, and Kyle Miller of Arthur, IL, 15 great grandchildren, with one on the way, and two great great grandchildren.

We love you mom, rest in Heavenly Peace.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the New Life Church, 1502 Cooks Mill Rd, Sullivan, IL. Pastor Dave Dolan will officiate. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
