Travis Lee Whitmore, 37, of Hindsboro, IL passed away at 1:47 PM on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at his residence.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St., Arcola, IL. Funeral service will be held at 4:30 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Aaron Boothe will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Arcola Cemetery.
Travis was born on February 18, 1988. He was a son of Timothy Daniel and Brenda Lee (Smith) Whitmore. He married Claire Elizabeth Strader on September 5, 2015 in Oakland, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Claire Whitmore of Hindsboro, IL, their two rescue pups, Harley and Roxi, his parents, Tim and Brenda Whitmore of Oakland, IL, two brothers, Timmy Whitmore of Charleston, IL, and Tommy Whitmore of Oakland, IL, his in-laws, Edwin and Caryl Strader of Hindsboro, IL, brother-in-law, Carter Strader and his wife Alishia of Warrensburg, MO, two nieces, Madelyn Whitmore of Sullivan, IL and Parker Strader of Warrensburg, MO, two nephews, Oliver and Mason Strader of Warrensburg, MO, his maternal grandparents, Bill and Marilyn Smith, paternal grandfather-in-law, J.D. Strader of Hindsboro, IL and maternal grandfather-in-law, Harold Marrs of Oakland, IL.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jennie and Arthur Bart, maternal step grandfather, Charles Talbott, paternal grandmother-in-law, Sabina Strader and maternal grandmother-in-law, Karen Marrs.
Travis graduated from Oakland High School in 2006 and went on to build a career that showed his versatility and hard work. He began working with his grandpa at Charles Talbott Construction. He worked at True Value in Arcola and for the Hindsboro Water Department, and he spent over five years working as an electrician at Curry Construction in Mattoon, IL. Most recently, he was employed at Cargill Ag of Paris, IL as an electrician.
Travis was a true outdoorsman. He loved spending time outside, whether he was deer hunting, fishing, kayaking, mushroom hunting, gardening or shooting guns. One of his favorite pastimes was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, which he purchased new in 2014, he and Claire have logged 67,876 miles on the open road, visiting Niagara Falls and Bruce Peninsula in Canada, and in the US they traveled to the Virginia’s, Alabama, Minnesota, Florida, Nebraska, Michigan, Arkansas, Wyoming, Kentucky, Tennessee and Missouri. He was also a “Chicken tender” caring for his mother and father-in-law’s chickens. Travis also hosted an annual Hog Roast at their home in Hindsboro for several years where he enjoyed connecting with friends and family.
Travis’s talents extended to home improvement as well. He completely remodeled the home he shared with Claire, turning it into a space they could call their own.
To honor Travis’s green thumb, in lieu of cut flowers, plants would be appreciated.
