SUSAN KAY SMITH, 76, of Castleton, IL, passed away at 4:35 A.M. on Saturday May 13, 2023, at the Arthur Home.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 19, 2023, at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St., Arcola, IL.  Pastors Jerry and Jeremiah Graham will officiate. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home on Friday.

 

Susan was born on December 17, 1946, in Geneseo, IL.  She was the daughter of Bernal Howard “Tude” and Darlene Amelia “Dolly” (Douglas) Frye. She married Marvin Donald Smith Sr. on December 10, 1967, in Mattherville, IL.  He passed away on February 25, 2012.

 

She is survived by three children, Marvin  Donald “Bo” Smith Jr. of Castleton IL, Marla Sue Graham and her husband Jerry of Lovington, IL, and Carlotta Foster and her husband Brian of Waco TX, fourteen grandchildren, Jeremiah, Myrah, Jacob, Krista, Jennah, Megan, Kolten, Mikaylah, Kaylee, Madison, Skyler, Anthony, Aiden, and Donovan, seven siblings, Gary Frye and his wife Nancy of Jacksonville, IL, Danny Frye and his wife JoLane of Jacksonville, IL, Jyla Vipond and her husband Bill of Milan, IL, Tami Frye-Matthew and her significant other, Mike of Monmouth, IL, Lonn Frye of Florida, Howard Frye of Aledo, IL and Sharon Clark of Texas.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin Donald Smith Sr., one brother, Jerry Frye, and one grandson, Kyle Smith.

 

Susan was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Bradford, IL.  She served as director for Awana’s for many years.  

 

Susan was the Assistant Activity Director at the Toulon Nursing Home in Toulon, IL from 1990 until she retired in 2012.  

 

She enjoyed reading, crafting, sewing, and painting.  When her girls were young, she made a lot of barbie doll clothes.  

 

She had a passion for country music. Susan would listen to the top 100 country music count down and write down all the lyrics to the top 20 songs.  She even wrote two songs herself and had them published.    She was a huge fan of the Statler Brothers, and she was even a member of the Statler Brothers Fan Club.
