Samuel Magana

SAMUEL “BUB” MAGANA, 43 of Lerna, IL passed away at 7:27 P.M. on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at his sister’s home in Peoria, IL.   

A visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main Street in Arcola, IL.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bub was born on August 12, 1979, in Los Angeles, CA.  He is the son of Javier Magana and Jayne Anne (Thomas).  

He is survived by three children, Mercedes Nicole Magana and Seth Connor Magana both of Evansville, IN, and River Smyser of Oakland, IL; his mother, Jayne Oyler and her husband, William Perry Jr. of Oakland, IL; his father, Javier Magana and his wife Julie of Dalton City, IL; six siblings, Jessica Heath of Tuscola, IL, Maria Magana Jones and her husband Travonn of Belleville, IL, Angelina Magana of Peoria, IL, Jennifer Magana of Charleston, IL, Melinda Hernandez and her husband Jose of Garrett, IL and Daniel Ruyle of Arcola, IL; thirteen nephews, seven nieces and two great nephews all who affectionately called him “Uncle Bub”.

Bub was preceded in death by his grandparents and three nephews, Brody Evan Heath, J.J. Heath, and Alex Lamar Magana Phillips. 

Bub had worked alongside his dad in his orchard for many years, he really enjoyed caring for the fruit trees, and helping with the harvest.  He has also worked in the restaurant industry as well.

Bub had an infectious smile and a great sense of humor.   He enjoyed grilling out and listening to music, but back in the day he used to like to fish, ride skateboards and go snowboarding.

His greatest joy in life was being a father. 

In lieu of flowers Bub’s family request memorials be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
