Ron Norvell, 89, of Arthur, IL passed away at 1:42 PM on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at his residence.

No formal services will be held. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Ron was born on July 30, 1936 in Thawville, IL, the son of Lloyd E. and Daisy (Wallace) Norvell. He married Mamie Marie Deckard on December 6, 1986 in Thawville, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Norvell of Arthur, IL, one daughter, Amanda Wagoner of Allerton, IL, and one son, Lloyd Winston Norvell of Urbana, IL, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a very good friend, Mike Clause, of Mount Dora, FL, whom he met while serving in Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 siblings, Helen Hewson, May Jackson, Raymond Norvell, Dorothy “Dot” Smith, Lloyd Norvell Jr., Alice Bailey, Glenn Norvell, Mary Lou Mason, Jimmy Norvell, and Carol Ann Norvell.

Ron was dedicated to his roots and maintained his longtime membership to the Thawville Community Church.

Ron retired as a Major from the United States Army in 1975. He served his country for 20 years. While in the Army, he served in the Koren War and served three tours of duty of the Vietnam war as a helicopter pilot. After he retired from the United States Army, Ron worked various jobs before accepting a supervisor’s position at Schrock’s Cabinet Factory in Arthur, IL. He and Marie moved to Arthur in 1989. Ron retired from Schrock’s in 1998, after 10 years of service.

After retirement, Ron and Marie enjoyed traveling. They traveled to every state in the United States, pulling a 5th wheel camper to every state, including Alaska twice. On their 18th wedding anniversary, they flew to Hawaii.

Ron’s hobbies included reading, going to auctions, and he was known for always having big iconic garage sales.
