Roger James Yoder

Roger James Yoder, 86, of Arcola, IL passed away at 5:04 P.M. on Thursday September 17, 2026 at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St. Arcola, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday September 24, 2026 at the funeral home. Rev. Doug McClellan will officiate.

Roger was born on December 30, 1939 in Rural Douglas County. He was a son of Elvan and Irene (Blucker) Yoder.

He is survived by one son, Michael (Cindy) Yoder of San Diego, CA. Three grandsons, Nathan, Ryan (Jaqueline), and Brendan all of San Diego, CA; three siblings, Dorothy (Gene) McQueen of Surprise, AZ, Allen (Ruth Ann) Yoder of Arcola, IL, and Dale (Bonnie) Yoder of Arcola, IL; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Beth Ann Ibbetson and the mother of his children, Carol Ann (Poe)

Roger’s family lived in the Chesterville, IL area for the first 11 years of his life, where he attended a one room school as well as the Arcola School System. His family moved to Hindsboro, IL where he attended 8th grade and went onto attend High School in Oakland, IL, graduating in 1958. Immediately after High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country for 4 years. After he was honorably discharged from the Marines he accepted a position with Kraft Foods in Champaign, IL. He later opened the Rockome Store in Arcola and would go on to become a Real Estate Broker and owned and operated a Century 21 Realtor Office. Later in his working career he managed retail furniture outlet stores, his career paths allowed him to live in many places, California, Tennessee, and Arizona. He eventually moved back to Illinois, retired and taxied many Amish friends.

Going on walks or helping someone Roger always kept busy. He enjoyed watching old Perry Mason shows, or a good Western film. He was a big fan of Burl Ives and James Dean.

Roger attended the First Cristian Church of Arcola, IL.
