Rita Skinner

Rita Skinner, 92, of Charleston, IL passed away at 7:25 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, just a little over two weeks after her husband passed away, at Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Rita was born on January 10, 1934 in Pesotum, IL. She was a daughter of Fred and Mytrle (Fitzsimmons) Christian. She married Marshall Skinner on May 29, 1953, in Champaign, IL, they just celebrated 73 years of marriage. He passed away on June 23, 2026.

She is survived by three children, Mike Skinner and his wife Carol, Jim Skinner and his wife Vicki, and Teresa Sims and her husband Mike, nine grandchildren, Misty Manning and her husband David, Jason Skinner and his wife Amber, Kendall Goebel and her husband Jon, Jamie Schneider and her husband David, Derek Skinner and his wife Kelsey, Brooke Bueker and her husband Joe, Brittany Montz and her husband Jackson, Michelle Sims, and Adam Sims and his wife Nicole, two step-grandchildren, Kristy Piel and her husband Jason, and Jami Manning and her husband James, 17 great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and two arriving in September, one step-great-great-grandchild, one sister, two brothers, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, four sisters, one grandson, and one great grandson.

Rita enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, going to the casinos, and playing cards with family and friends, at which she took very seriously and was very competitive.
