Margaret Louise “Peggy” Butler, 76, of Hindsboro, IL passed away at 5:10 AM on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL.
Private burial will be held in the Union Cemetery. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Peggy was born on April 14, 1949 in Douglas County, IL. She was a daughter of Howard Russell and Sylvia Viola (Burch) Harris.
She is survived by two sons, Jeff Butler and his wife Stephanie of Danville, IL, and Dustin Butler of Hindsboro, IL, six grandchildren: Danielle Butler Hendricks, Preston Butler, Christopher Butler, Sylvia Martinez, Hugo Martinez, and Christina Newman; 9 great grandchildren: Breydon Butler, Rohan Hendricks, Anna Butler, Clarence Butler, Ashton Tarr, Chloe Martinez, Dominic Mahnke, Freddy Munoz, and Lily Munoz; one great-great granddaughter, Emilea Martinez; and one brother, Howard “Bud” Harris and his wife Jeanette of Arcola, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Viola Harris, one daughter, Sandra Newman, three sisters, Vivian Richey and her husband Cody, Sally Smith and her husband Richard, and Janice Sylvester and her husband Virgil, and two nephews Tony Harris and Virgil Richey.
Peggy worked at Zenith in Paris, IL, Little Fuse in Arcola, IL and Paul and Judy’s in Chesterville, IL. She also worked at Rockhome Gardens as a cook in the restaurant and in the bakery until they closed, then she went on to clean homes. Her life after she retired revolved around her grandchildren.
Peggy was known for her love of cooking. She enjoyed preparing meals and always ensured that everyone had food to eat.
Memorials may be made to Willow Breeze Hospice House.
