Mary Jane Taylor, 87, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 10:15 AM on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL.
Mary Jane was born on June 16, 1938 in North Okaw Township, Humboldt, IL. She was the daughter of Charles William Sr. and Lois Margaret (Freesh) Fleming. She married Charles Smith Taylor on September 1, 1973 at the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Noth Okaw Township, IL.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Taylor of Mattoon, IL, five children, Stephen Deneen Rotramel and his wife Sandra Lee of Quad Cities, IA, Stuart Leroy Rotramel and his wife Tannya of Charleston, IL, Charles Alan Rotramel and his wife Janelle of Tulare, CA, George Anthony Quinn Rotramel and his wife Andrea of Tuscola, IL, and Angela Jeanine Weaver and her husband Rob of Bryan, OH, three step children, Jeffrey Smith Taylor of Arthur, IL, Ross Wade Taylor of Covington, KY, and David William Taylor and his wife Adrian of Decatur, IL, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, one brother, Charles Fleming Jr. of Pawnee, IL, and one sister-in-law, June Fleming of Bryan, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, James Scott Rotramel, one step son, Charles Michael Taylor, a step grandson, Ross Charles Taylor, a step daughter-in-law, Sue Rust, one sister, Harriet Lilly and her husband Hanson, one brother, Russell Fleming and one sister-in-law, Lako Fleming.
Mary Jane graduated from Arthur High School and went on to attend Parkland College. She worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years. Her nursing journey included positions at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center and leadership roles as the director of nursing at Mattoon Health Care, Palm Terrace and Douglas Rehabilitation nursing homes. She also worked alongside Dr. Shubert and Dr. Zinschlag as a surgical nurse.
Throughout her life, Mary Jane remained active painting beautiful pictures and doing very detailed needlepoint works which are displayed throughout her home.
Services will be held at a later date. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
