Biography

MARGARET LOUISE YORK, 98, formerly of Tuscola, IL passed away at 8:45 a.m. on August 1, 2014 at the Arthur Home

No services are planned. Cremation rites were accorded. Interment will be in Bourbon Cemetery in Bourbon. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Mrs. York was born on October 17, 1915 in Bourbon, IL, the daughter of Henry A. and Margaret (Nelson) Petry. She was a 1932 graduate of Tuscola High School. She married Andrew Lee York on December 24, 1933, in Arthur, IL. He preceded her in death on
June 14, 1973.

Survivors include a son, Andrew "Lee" York Jr of Tuscola, IL; a daughter, Margaret "Sue" Clouser of Monticello, IL; four grandchildren, Shari Schultz and husband Mark of Champaign, IL, Kevin Lee York and wife Jill of Elmhurst, IL, Brian Lee York of Alpharetta, GA and Andrew Lee York III of Vancouver, WA; nine great-grandchildren, a brother, Lewis Dean Petry and wife Shirley of Kenilworth, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, and a brother, Lyle Nelson Petry, preceded her in death.

Just out of high school, Mrs. York was employed at Jarman Hospital and she enjoyed living at the Nurses’ Home during that time. She was later a housekeeper and mother and was employed as a manager and bookkeeper in several Tuscola businesses, including Todd Hardware, Empire Gas and Bob Knapp Building Specialties.

She was a volunteer and patroness of the Douglas County Museum for many years.

The people of Tuscola will best remember her for her outgoing personality and as she rode her adult tricycle around the city accompanied often by her dog. In later years, she enjoyed the company of her beloved cat. Her family and her faith were very important toher.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions in her name may be made to the Douglas County Museum, 700 S. Main St. Tuscola, IL 61953.
