Elizabeth H. “Liz” Stanton, 60, of Arcola, IL passed away at 9:16 AM on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Willow Breeze Hospice House in Mattoon, IL.
Services will be held at a later date.
Liz was born on March 4, 1965 in California. She was the daughter of Robert Douglas Sr. and Lucilla (Graff) Yard. She married Troy Stanton on July 3, 2001 in Arcola, IL. He passed away on December 8, 2020.
She is survived by her companion chihuahua, Dolly, three children, Aleisha Gibson, Miranda Gibson and James Gibson Jr. all of Danville, AL, 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, five siblings, Renee Jenkins and her husband Arthur of Plumerville, AR, Rebekah Tucker and her husband Jimmy McGee of Atkins, AR, Robert Yard Jr. of London, AR, Regina Butler and her of Arkoma, OK, John Yard and his wife Gene of Dardanelle, AR, a special friend, Ronza Mendoza of Arcola, IL, and a brother-in-law, Timmy Stanton and his wife Marie of Arcola, IL, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Roberta Barrow.
Liz attended the Missionary Baptist Church in Arcola.
Liz served as a semi-truck driver for several years at Tyson Foods out of Arkansas. After her time on the road, she transitioned to working at Libman’s in Arcola, IL, followed by positions at Casey’s, Dollar General and most recently Jumpin’ Jimmies in Arcola.
Liz was known for her warm and welcoming personality; she always greeted everyone with a smile. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Liz had a deep love for her dogs and enjoyed cooking delicious meals. She enjoyed crafting, particularly sewing. In her downtime, she loved to read and often went fishing with her husband, Troy.
