Leah Burke

LEAH BURKE, 71, of Arcola, IL passed away at 5:50 P. M. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Funeral service will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Edwards Funeral Home. Rev. David Ferguson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to service time on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Assumption, IL.

Leah was born on November 27, 1941 in Shelbyville, IL. She was a daughter of Ralph and Gladys Gilleland. She married Robert “Bob” Burke on March 31, 1963 in Quincy, IL. He passed away on July 6, 2013.

She is survived by one son, Clinton “Butch” Burke and his wife Beth of Arcola, IL; two daughters, Kathy Burke and Melissa Dawson both of Arcola, IL; five grandchildren, Paige and Logan Burke, Kristy Hutton and Lori Robertson and Molly Dawson, three great- grandchildren, Haylie, Holly and Havanna Hutton and her dear friend Alice Rippey of Arcola, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Leah was a big Elvis fan. She enjoyed reading and watching soap operas on TV. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. She spent the past couple of years in the Arcola Health Care Center and really made a lot of great friends while she was there. Her family was very special to her and she always looked forward to spending time with all of them. The 50th wedding anniversary celebration they had for her and Bob this past March was something very precious to Leah.
