Laverne R. Borntreger

Laverne R. Borntreger, 74, of Arthur, IL passed away at 7:40 AM on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. 

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM on Monday, December 22, 2025 at the HCK West Building 2008 CR 1800 East, one mile south of Arthur, IL. Bishop Raymond Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Otto Cemetery in rural Arthur, IL. Visitation will be held anytime after 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2025 and anytime after 10:00 AM on Sunday, December 21, 2025 all at the HCK West Building. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. 

Laverne was born on July 10, 1951 in Tuscola, IL. He was a son of Roman N. and Kathryn “Katie” (Herschberger) Borntreger. 

He is survived by four brothers and five sisters, Sara Marie Mast of Arthur, IL, Arlene Miller and her husband Simon of Arthur, IL, Joe Wayne Borntreger and his wife Tammi (Tucker) of North Carolina, David William Borntreger and his wife Anna Mae (Mast) of Orrville, OH, Allan Ray Borntreger and his wife Rebekah (Diener) of Charleston, IL, Betty Jane Graber and her husband Ben of Sullivan, IL, and Ruth Ann Stutzman and her husband Marcus of Arthur, IL, 35 nieces and nephews, 120 great nieces and nephews, and 36 great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roman and Katie Borntreger, his twin brother, Willard Borntreger, one sister, Mary Kay Borntreger, one brother-in-law, Andy Ray Mast, stillborn twin nephews, one niece, Louise Miller, and one nephew, Joe Mast 

Laverne was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
