LaVeeta Sharon Goens

LaVeeta Sharon Goens, 86, of Lake Paradise, IL passed away at 11:55 AM on Monday, December 8, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 in the Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. Pastor Don Pankey will officiate. Burial will take place in the Dodge Grove Cemetery. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

LaVeeta was born on June 10, 1939 in Mattoon, IL. She was a daughter of Walter and Harriett (Daugherty) Hash. She married Charles Ebert Goens on May 25, 1975 in Mattoon, IL.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Ebert Goens, four children, Kent Sharp, Brett Sharp, Angie Tanner and her husband Butch, and Chris Myers, many grandchildren, five stepchildren, Sharon K. White and her husband Willie, Deborah Renfro and her husband Skip, Patty Shupe, Gary Goens, and Ann Lytle, and three sisters, Shirley Tomlinson, Deon Myers and Norma Himes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Rhonda Neeley and Tonya Sharp, one step-son, Chuck Goens, one son-in-law, Garrett Myers, and one sister, Madonna Johnson.

LaVeeta graduated from Mattoon High School in 1957 and went on to have a fulfilling career.

She worked at GE in Mattoon, IL and later owned and operated Granny’s Nook in Cowden, IL. Her talents as a florist were showcased during her time at Martin’s IGA in Effingham, where she created beautiful arrangements. She later worked at Keller Convention Center in Effingham, where she enjoyed decorating for various special events, with Christmas being a particular favorite.

LaVeeta was a member of the Winebrenner Church of God in Mattoon, IL. She enjoyed spending time in her flower beds at home. She loved the outdoors and cherished her time living at Lake Paradise. She always enjoyed visiting Branson, Missouri and enjoyed making memories with her family and friends.
