John David McGrath, 75, of Arthur, IL passed away at 11:55 A.M. on Monday, March 7, 2022, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. 

Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Penn Station, 120 East Progress St., Arthur, IL. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Penn Station. Rev. John Stewart will officiate. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Arthur American Legion and the Arthur VFW will be in the Arthur Cemetery at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, March 14, 2022. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. 

John was born on January 10, 1947, in Tuscola, IL to William Paul and Mary Eva (Prosser) McGrath. He married Jo Ann (Ross) Greer on July 10, 1982, in Hugo, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Jody McGrath of Arthur, IL, six children, Megan McGrath of Clinton, IL, John Ryan McGrath of Katy, TX, Jennifer Greer from Idaho, Christopher Greer and his wife Kristin of Monticello, IL, Andrew Greer and his wife Jennifer of Olympia, WA, and David McGrath and his wife Haley of Arthur, IL, 13 grandchildren, two sisters, Marianne McGrath of Orlando, FL, Paulette Hammer and her husband Wayne of Catlin, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Edd McGrath.

John was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. 

John graduated from Villa Grove High School in 1965. He went to college for one year before being drafted into the United States Army for two years. He received two bronze stars and a combat infantry badge while in the military. Following the military, he went to work as a Lineman for Illinois Power for 22 years and Ameren CIPS for 21 years and retired in May 2012.

He was a member of the Arthur VFW and American Legion, IBEW Local 51 of Springfield, IL and Local 702 of West Frankfort, IL. John served on the Arthur Village Board for 12 years and most recently served as a Lowe TWP trustee.

Memorials may be made to the Arthur Ambulance Service or the Arthur District No. 305 Education Foundation.
