Jacqueline Lee "Jackie" Sykes

Jacqueline Lee “Jackie” Sykes, 67, of Arcola, IL passed away at 4:23 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Jackie was born on May 16, 1959 in Chicago, IL, to Leonard and Joyce (Ryder) Pantaleo. She married Jeffrey “Jeff” Sykes on August 16, 1980 in Barrington, IL. She had three children, one daughter, Jessica Sykes and two sons, James Sykes (deceased) and Jared Sykes. Also surviving are her sisters, Christy Jones and Catherine “Cat” Pantaleo, and her grandchildren, Vincent “Vinny” Peacock, and Willow Wright. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, James Sykes, two brothers, Lenny and Mark, and one sister, Terri.

Jackie always placed all of her trust in God. She devoted her life to serving others because she enjoyed it. Her greatest desire was to take care of the household and all of those who were in it. Her favorite role in life was that of a housewife and a mother to her children. After eighteen years of staying home, Jackie began her career working in various positions at nursing homes. She continued to work even after retirement because she realized she loved to connect with and serve the elderly. She had great compassion for those who were in need and those who were suffering. She loved and adored all animals, especially her English Bulldog, Jiggs. She enjoyed the simple pleasure of being outdoors, listening to the birds, observing the wonders of nature, and taking in the natural beauty of her own yard.

Jackie was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Private funeral services will be held. Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
