Helen Marie Daugherty, 96, of Mattoon, IL passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026 at Mattoon Health Care.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 9, 2026 at Edwards Funeral Home, 221 E Main Street, Arcola IL. Rev. Rich Knofsky will officiate. Burial will be at Craig Cemetery, northeast of Charleston, immediately after the service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Helen was born November 12, 1929 in Hindsboro, IL to Clayton and Calla Moore Stretch Connour. She married Neal Franklin Daugherty, November 29, 1947 at Bloomfield, Indiana. He preceded her in death, October 11, 1983.
She is survived by two children, Bryan Stephen (Wanda) and David Michael (Sue) and bonus son Barry Keith; grandchildren, Matthew St Clair, Elizabeth Daugherty, Sam (Layne) Daugherty, Luke Daugherty and Rachel Daugherty and bonus grandchildren Scott Keith and Denise (Clint) Hignite.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Daugherty, two granddaughters, Ronelle Daugherty and Kathleen Daugherty, brothers Charles Connour and Earl Stretch, brother in-law, George Daugherty, sisters-in-law Alice Connour, Harriet Hash, Thelma Matthews, Dollie Swinford, Louella Daugherty, and Doreen Daugherty.
Helen retired from the Maricopa County (AZ) Adult Probation Department. Upon retirement and after 31 years in Mesa AZ she relocated back to the Charleston-Mattoon area. She was an avid Cubs fan and went to many spring training games in Mesa.
She was a member of the Hindsboro Christian Church, the Women of the Moose, the Red Hat Society and the DAR. She had a large extended family whom she loved dearly. She loved to travel, especially to visit friends and family. Helen was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend.
Memorials may be made to the Hindsboro Christian Church.
