GLENDA ABERCROMBIE, 72, of rural Tuscola, IL passed away at 3:57 P.M. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main in Arcola, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the funeral home. Brother Randy Walters will officiate. Burial will be in Cartwright Cemetery in rural Tuscola, IL.
Glenda was born on November 27, 1953, in Glasgow, KY a daughter of Guy and Lena Elizabeth (Parker) Spear. She married James E. Abercrombie on October 11, 1975, in the Bache Chapel in rural Tuscola, IL. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Glenda is survived by her husband Jim; two children, Kristina Mae Brown and her husband Jeremy of Hindsboro, IL and James Daniel Abercrombie and his wife Sara of Bradenton, FL; six grandchildren, Anna and Steven Brown, and Andrew, Abigail, Austin, and Allyson Abercrombie; three siblings, Dean Spear of Hindsboro, IL, Dianne Furlong of Arcola, IL and Bobby Spear of Red Banks, TN, a sister-in-law, Clara M. Huffaker of Arthur, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Lena Spear, a granddaughter, Ashley Brown, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Edith Abercrombie and a sister-in-law, Marcia Spear.
Glenda graduated from Arcola High School in 1971; she attended Lake Land College where she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse diploma.
Glenda’s nursing career spanned over 5 decades. Her very first job after becoming an LPN was at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL she also worked at Jarman Hospital in Tuscola, IL and Cole Hospital in Champaign, IL. She served as an industrial nurse at Kraft Foods in Champaign, IL, she served as an office nurse for four different doctors, she worked at three different nursing homes, she also served as wellness director at Carriage Crossing in Arcola, IL. Her most recent nursing position was with Avenna Health Care caring for her special needs grandson.
Glenda also worked in retail at Coach in Tuscola.
She was a member of Living Hope Fellowship in Villa Grove, IL and served on the Church Board.
Glenda had multiple hobbies. She enjoyed crafting, cooking, sewing, gardening, and shopping.
She had a very Loving and Generous Spirit.
