Biography

GEORGIA FURLONG, 84, of Arcola, IL, passed away at 5:00 A.M. on Monday, July 07, 2014 at the Arcola Health Care Center.

Private Services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Edwards Funeral Home.

Georgia was born on September 28, 1929 in Alton, IL. She was a daughter to Paul and Delsie (Reasons) Tate. She married James “Jim” Furlong on September 29, 1946 in Harrisburg, IL; he passed away on March 6, 2009.

She is survived by five children: Terry Tiller and her husband Jim of Peoria, IL, Vickie Biggs of Arcola, IL, Jerry Furlong and his wife Linda of Lake Mattoon, IL, Robert Furlong of Decatur, IL, and Tammy Knowles and her husband David of Colchester, IL; one daughter-in-law, Diane Furlong of Arcola, IL; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, one sister, Betty Eades and her husband Jr. of Lodge, IL and her extended family Bernice, Sam and Bill Blackwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, an infant son, her stepmother, one half-brother, one half-sister and a son-in-law, Richard Biggs.
Georgia worked at Cap and Gown in Arcola for several years and later worked at General Electric in Mattoon and retired in 1992. After she retired she babysat for friends and family.

Georgia was a member of the Walnut Grove Christian Church where she participated in the Eunice Club. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and always looked forward to shopping trips to Nashville, TN and holiday gatherings with her family.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Walnut Grove Christian Church or the Arcola Fire Department.
