Gary Joseph Miller

Gary Joseph Miller, 63 of Pesotum, IL passed away at 4:55 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at his residence.

The eighth and youngest child of the late Earl and Mildred Miller, Gary Joseph Miller was born on February 18, 1962 in Tuscola, IL. Known for his sharp wit and sparkling blue eyes, Gary was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, step dad and friend.

Raised in Arcola, IL, Miller graduated from Arcola High School and went on to obtain both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Illinois University. His first career was as a counselor which led him to work at Texas Tech and Texas A&M University.

Upon his return to Illinois, Gary pursued his real passion in law enforcement and met the love of his life, Julie, to whom he was married nearly 20 years before his passing. Miller retired from the Tuscola Police Department after a career that spanned more than two decades.

The family recounts the teenage uncle who was more like a brother who built bicycles, threw a football, and did all the fun things a parent’s baby brother should do. A passionate outdoorsman, Gary shared a love of hunting and fishing with his wife and family members. He made a beautiful lattice crust on every pie he delivered at the holidays and they were magnificent.

Gary Miller is the epitome of manhood: kind, strong, courageous and fun, he will be dearly missed by his wife, Julie Miller of Pesotum, IL, three children, Tatum Ervin of Tuscola, IL, Jessica Ervin of Tuscola, IL and John Richard Ervin III and his wife Hunter of Monticello, IL, nine grandchildren, Cayden Haynes, Hannah Haynes, Abigail Haynes, Olivia Hatcher, Luna Donnals, Jase Siep, Jasmine Seip, Anniston Ervin and John Richard Ervin IV, six siblings, Bill Miller and his wife Sandy of Sullivan, IL, Barb Schuler of Estero, FL, Roger Miller and his wife Jo-Ann of Apopka, FL, Jim Miller and his wife Linda of Mahomet, IL, Pat Miller and his wife Angie of Lanark, IL and Beth Hainzinger and her husband Scott of Verona, WI, and too many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews to grieve to mention. His influence will echo through generations.

Welcoming him in heaven are his loving parents, and sister, Nancy Rennels.
