Donnie Mast

Donnie Mast, 63 of Arcola, IL passed away at 5:41 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his residence.

A Celebration of Donnie’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Penn Station in Arthur, IL. Pastor Darrell Helmuth will officiate. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. 

Donnie was born on May 18, 1961, in Elkhart, IN to John Henry Mast and Sharon (Bird) Johnson. 

He is survived by five children, Jeremy and Jenny Mast of Sullivan, IL, Kathy Wilson of Tuscola, IL, Donald Van Cleave of Las Vegas, NV, Christopher Mast of Springdale, PA; and Sidney Mast of Tuscola, IL; seven grandchildren, Bradly, Daisy, Dominic, Benjamin, Jaxsyn, Marryn, and Emric; his father, John Henry Mast and Brenda Gordy of Humboldt, IL; one sister, Linda Chancellor of Bourbon, IL, and life companion, Lauretta Helmuth, her kids, and grandkids. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon (Bird) Johnson, his grandparents, Maggie and Jonas Mast, three aunts, Tillie Sanders, Fannie Kauffman, and Alta Kauffman, and two uncles, Adlai “Butch” Mast and Clarence Mast.

Donnie was a jack of all trades. He started doing carpentry with his father at the age of 13. He wore many different hats, including trucking, farming, residential maintenance, automotive, and farming mechanics. 

In his younger years he enjoyed racing stock cars and went by “Dirtslinger.” Donnie was always willing to help someone in need. He loved gardening, tinkering in his garage, collecting things, and owned every tool you could imagine.
