Dennis E. Day, 61, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 12:06 PM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Cornerstone Fellowship in Arthur, IL with a fellowship meal following. Pastor Kevin Schrock will officiate. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Dennis was born on April 25, 1964 in Indianapolis, IN. He was a son of Charles Dean and Irene Deloris (Chamness) Day.
He is survived by four siblings, Sheila Murray of Monticello, KY, Brenda Kimery of Mattoon, IL, Eddie Day and his wife Shirley of Tuscola, IL, and Diana Garner of Decatur, IL, 13 nieces and nephews, John Steffens, Derek Day, Lauren Todd (Zack), Joe Bartlet (Alecia), Amber Holt (Brandon), Marcia Ramsey (Tiffany), Darcy Bradley (David,) Carl Huffman (Julie), Amy Larck (Adam), Lisa Schrock (Kevin), Jay Day (Susannah), Shawn Garner, and Timothy Garner, and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Steve Day, and Frank Day.
Dennis completed his high school education at Sunnyside Special Education in Decatur, IL. Throughout his life, he had a remarkable knack for remembering important dates, including birthdays and anniversaries.
He found joy in many interests. Dennis had a particular fondness for peanut butter and always wore a watch, always keeping track of time. He enjoyed solving word search puzzles and was an avid fan of classic television shows, especially The Price is Right, Gunsmoke, and Bonanza.
Dennis cherished watching his nieces and nephews participate in their sporting activities. He had a special bond with animals, particularly with his dog, Butterball, who brought him much happiness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edwards Funeral Home to help pay for funeral expenses.
