Delores "Red" Myers

Delores “Red” Myers, 87, of Atwood, IL passed away at 8:43 P.M. on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

 

Private graveside services will be held in the Arthur Cemetery on Friday, March 4, 2022.  The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

 

Delores was born on March 26, 1934, in Moultrie County, IL she was a daughter of Harry E. and Gladys Mae (Shonk) Fifer.   She joined three half-brothers.  Harold Earl Fifer, William Martin Fifer, Donald Eugene Shonk, later a full brother Bertrum Leon “Bud” Fifer was born.

 

Delores married Walter Eugene “Gene” Myers on June 12, 1951. He passed away on August 24, 2001. They had two children, Richard E. Myers and his wife Debbie of North Carolina and Patricia Myers Crowe McMahan of Mattoon, IL, four grandchildren, Angie Wingler and her husband Tyson of Arthur, IL, Jamie Yutzy and her husband Toby of Richmond, Indiana, Michael Myers, of Garrett, IL and Chad Crowe of Mattoon, IL, one step-grandson, Tyler McMahan and his wife Hannah of Sullivan, IL, four great grandchildren, Matthew Kidwell, Drew Wingler, Emily Yutzy and Tyra Wingler.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, three half-brothers, one full brother, one grandson Chris Crowe, and one son-in-law, Jim McMahan.

 

Delores graduated from Arthur High School in 1951 and married Gene on June 12, right after graduation.

 

She worked a variety of jobs, from waitressing, paper hanger, bus driver, bookkeeper, cheese clerk, bartender, cabinet factory, and drove a truck with her husband for Masterbrand for 10 years in 48 different states.  She also taxied Amish, drove a mail truck, and sewed for people. She retired from Electrolux in 1996.

 

Delores’ passion was redoing houses, traveling in the mountains, and she loved to read, until she lost her eyesight.
