Brian Vincent McLane

Brian Vincent McLane, 75, formerly of Arcola, Illinois passed away at his residence on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Brian was born on November 27, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland. He was the son of Thomas Michael McLane and Janet Ross Blair McLane.

Brian is survived by his daughter, Brittany Jordan McLane of Arizona, Brother Michael (Mike) McLane and his wife Kathy of Corvallis, Oregon and brother James (Jimmie) McLane and his wife Jodi of Arcola, Illinois, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents, twin sons, a brother Thomas (Tommy) McLane and a niece Heather McLane.

Brian graduated from Arcola High School in 1967. He received his bachelor’s degree in library science and his master’s degree in information technology from The University of Arizona.

Throughout his career, Brian was a Professor at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, The University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, Sante Fe Community College in Sante Fe, New Mexico and he retired from Coconino Community College in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Brian was an outstanding athlete on the field, on the court and on the track for his freshman and sophomore year, but before his junior year started, his father came home with a guitar under his arm and that began Brian’s love for music. Brian was a self-taught Musician. He played the guitar, bass, keyboard and the drums as well as he sang his own vocals. He wrote background music for PBS shows, cut an album in 1986 called “Shadow Send” and wrote several songs for his Scottish mother, family members and friends. In high school Brian, Steve Gates, Carl Vandeveer, Gary Good and Monte Ghere started their first band called “Kix” and played in the school all purpose room at school and at The Purple Lantern in downtown Arcola. Brian also played in several bands throughout his life and truly loved serenading the residents at the local assisted living that his mother lived in when he came back to visit.

Although Brian left Arcola after high school, his yearning for family and his hometown brought him home often. Brian was always doting on his nieces and nephews, and they adored him. They looked forward to him coming and to the adventures that he would take them on. The four McLane brothers shared a bond that never wavered. They made many childhood, adolescent and adult memories that will be shared by their family for generations.
