Bert was born on May 14, 1939 in Paris, IL. He was a son of Arthur Doyle and Martha Alice (Stickler) Fidler. He married Carolyn Wagoner on August 5, 1971 in Charleston, IL; she passed away on December 31, 2005.

He is survived by two daughters, Angela Fidler Hopper and her husband Mark of Mattoon, IL, and Nicki Fidler-Lawrence and her husband Adam of Charleston, IL, five grandchildren, Chelsea Fidler, Callie Lawrence, Tyler Gabbard, Jame Talbert and Katelyn Fidler, five great grandchildren, his four legged companion, Hopper, siblings, James Edward Fidler of Arcola, IL, Marilyn Reece and her husband Bruce of Tuscola, IL, and George Fidler of Hindsboro, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol, two sons, Chad Aaron Fidler and George Alan Fidler, and one brother, Don Fidler.

Bert attended the United Methodist Church in Hindsboro, IL. He previously worked at Progress Industries in Arthur, IL, King Brothers in Arcola, Bulk Tek in Arcola, and Hindsboro Gas and Oil, formerly Wabash, where he worked for 20 years until he retired in 2006.

He took pride in keeping the village of Hindsboro looking its best, spending his time mowing lawns and assisting with the upkeep of the Civic Center, which he and Carol, along with many others, helped raise funds to build. He also enjoyed his time as a volunteer fireman. Prior to joining, he and a close friend, Ted Ard, built a water tanker for the Fire Department.

Bert had a passion for building and riding motorcycles. In his spare time he liked to take his motorcycles riding and hill climbing. He also had a lifelong love for coon hunting, training the hounds, and selling the hides from his hunts. He shared these hobbies with many close friends and family and loved to tell stories about them.

Bert was deeply loved by all who knew him. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He wasn’t just a friend or a neighbor — he was the heart of the community, and his absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
