Rex M. Wright, 90, a veteran of the United States Army, of Tuscola passed away at 4:20 a.m. Friday (March 23, 2018) at Carle Hospital, Urbana.
He was born in Ashmore on Oct. 6, 1927, the son of Ernie and Ethel Mae (Williams) Wright. Rex had eight siblings and all siblings and parents have preceded him in death. Rex married Linda K. Newlin on Oct. 19, 1952, in Corinth, Miss. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2010.
Survivors include three daughters, Marcia E. Knox of Weldon, Kathy E. (Lou) Rhodes of Champaign and Susan M. Willmore of Tuscola; eight grandchildren, Nicole Spear (Darren) Hite of Charleston, David (Beth Anderson) Spear, Jerusha Knox of Weldon, Chuck (Stacey Michaels) Knox of Oakland, Michael Mattix of Lexington, Ky., Christopher (Lori) Mattix of O'Fallon, Mo., Tara Willmore (Josh) Bethel of Evansville, Ind., and Lora Rich of Kissimmee, Fla.; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Rex worked over 30 years for Ecoff Trucking west of Tuscola and was a refrigerator/air conditioner repairman in the Tuscola and surrounding area for many, many years ... right up to his 80th birthday! He will always be remembered as an honest, hardworking family man who loved to tell a good joke. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Flesor's Candy Kitchen, 101 W. Sale St., Tuscola. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Douglas County Animal Shelter.
