HELEN L. JONES, 92, of Arthur, IL passed away at 10:56 A.M. Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Kirby Medical Center in Monticello, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the Arthur United Methodist Church, 128 East Illinois St., in Arthur.  Rev. R. Bruce Weiman will officiate.  Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the church.  The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Helen was born on May 25, 1925 in Vandalia, IL.  She was a daughter of Harrison and Nellie Lucile (Miller) Summerlott.   She married William R. Jones on November 18, 1951 in Decatur, IL.  He passed away on October 4, 2005.

Survivors include one son, Revie Harrison Jones of Arthur, IL; one daughter, Candi Lucile Culp and of Forsyth, IL; three grandsons, Revie Harrison Jones, Jr. of Whiting, IN, Carsen William Culp and Cade Edward Culp, both of Forsyth, IL; one great-granddaughter Lyla; several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great-nephews.    

Her parents, her husband, one brother, Other Summerlot and three sisters, Jennie Bunning, Wilma Davis and Florence Crawford preceded her in death.

Helen graduated from Niantic High School in 1944 as the salutatorian.   She was a member of Macon County Rural Youth and 4H clubs.  She went to Brown’s Business School after High School and went to work at the Standard Oil Company where she operated a comptometer.  

Her and her husband farmed in the Divernon, IL area from 1964 until 1993.   They retired in 1993 and moved to Arthur, IL.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Glenarm, IL where she taught Sunday School.   She served as the Vice President of the Springfield District of the United Methodist Women for several years.   After her husband moved to Arthur they joined the Arthur United Methodist Church.   Helen was also a Lifetime Member of the Farm Bureau.

Helen always raised a garden, canned and put up frozen vegetables.   She also volunteered at the Divernon Grade School.   She enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader. 

Memorials may be made to the Arthur United Methodist Church.
